Design optimization of coronary stents by FEM

چکیده

Two different designs, A and B, with notable different geometrical parameters, were compared. The S-Stent was simulated to expand from its as cut configuration on a hyperelastic balloon model under physiological deployment pressure (below 18 atm). The numerical simulation results reveal that stent B, at diametric expansion of 3.3mm OD, experiences a 50.5% reduction in plastic strain and 10% less shortening over stent A. This reduction in plastic strain translates into lower deployment pressure, thereby lessening injury to the arterial walls imparted by the balloon. The relatively smaller post delivery shortening allows for more precise positioning of the stent B across the lesion.

Parametric Design Analysis and Shape Optimization of Coronary Arteries Stent Structure

1. Abstract The stent implantation, stenting, is one of the angioplasties to treat atherosclerosis. The success of the stenting is largely determined by the shape design of stents. As objects of analysis and requisites for optimization, parametric models of a tubular balloon-expanded stent are established. FEM technique is used to investigate its mechanical properties. In order to realize shape...

Drug Release Analysis and Optimization for Drug-Eluting Stents

The drug release analysis and optimization for drug-eluting stents in the arterial wall are studied, which involves mechanics, fluid dynamics, and mass transfer processes and design optimization. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to analyze the process of drug release in the vessels for drug-eluting stents (DES). Kriging surrogate model is used to build an approximate function relationshi...

Multi-objective optimization of coronary stent using Kriging surrogate model

BACKGROUND In stent design optimization, the functional relationship between design parameters and design goals is nonlinear, complex, and implicit and the multi-objective design of stents involves a number of potentially conflicting performance criteria. Therefore it is hard and time-consuming to find the optimal design of stent either by experiment or clinic test. Fortunately, computational m...

Finite Element Analysis of a Stent Implantation in a Stenosed Artery

Instent restenosis (ISR) has been a key factor that restricts the further use of intraoronary stents. And the mechanical interaction between the stent and the artery has been indicated as one of the significant causes for the activation of stent-related restenosis. However, there is very little quantitative information about the interaction of stent with artery. In order to improve the general ...

Design Optimization for Total Volume Reduction of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators

Permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) are novel generators which can be used in high-performance wind farms. High efficiency and flexibility in producing electricity from variable rotation make them good candidate for wind power applications. Furthermore, because these kinds of generators have no excitation winding, there is no copper loss on rotor; hence, they can operate at high pow...
